Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN IS DCC NECESSARY?

In a condo, when the electrical panel is at a full capacity and the unit’s electric meter is accessible from the parking space.

In a home, instead of a panel upgrade that would otherwise be necessary.

WHAT IS DCC?

DCC is an electrical component specifically designed to allow the addition of an EV charging unit to an existing panel at a full load.

DCC-9 permits charger installations in condo’s/apartments where the electrical panel is physically far from the parking spot.

DCC-10 simplifies charger installation in a home where the panel is at a full capacity.

HOW DOES DCC WORK?

DCC allows the connection of any EV charger to a fully loaded panel by managing the energy available at any given time, whether in a home or in a condo.

  1. DCC does a real-time reading of the total power consumption of a home or condo electrical panel;
  2. It detects when the total power consumption of the main circuit breaker exceeds 80% and temporarily de-energizes the charger.
  3. When DCC detects that the total power consumption of the electrical panel is less than 80% for more than 15 minutes it automatically re-energizes the charger.

DCC will only allow power to be delivered to the EV charger if the total demand of the panel is below its full capacity.

DOES DCC WORK WITH A NEMA 14-50 OUTLET?

Yes.

In the United States: The NEMA 14-50 is for a 40A continuous load, which means that a 50A breaker is needed. We recommend using models DCC-10-50A and DCC-9-50A.

In Canada: The NEMA 14-50 are for a 32A continuous load, which means that a 40A breaker is needed. We recommend using models DCC-10-40A and DCC-9-40A.

DOES DCC COMPLY WITH THE ELECTRICAL CODE?

DCC is compliant with National Electric Code (NEC) 70-619 Article 750.

Certifications: UL Listed and CSA (CAN/USA C22.2 14-13 UL 508, 17th Ed.)

Local inspectors may not always be familiar with this Energy Management System. It is recommend to share DCC specifications with inspectors, prior to purchase, for familiarization and approval..
